Herrera Elementary School is named after U.S. Poet Laureate Emeritus Mr. Juan Felipe Herrera. As a component of the design process, the design team met with Mr. Herrera to draw inspiration. Inspired by Mr. Herrera’s words, the design team envisioned this school in the ‘Mexican Modern’ architectural style. The use of bright color displays a sense of playfulness, appropriate to its educational context, and breaths life and personality into the school. Herrera Elementary offers learning environments that support S.T.E.A.M. Education as an approach to teaching and learning that combines science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math to guide student inquiry, discussion, and problem-solving In addition, a dual-immersion program will teach students both English and Spanish.
