In order to improve efficiency and better utilize existing facilities, Sierra View Medical Center engaged Darden Architects to design a new stand alone laboratory building to be constructed adjacent to the emergency department on parcels contiguous with established residences. The building must create a natural extension to the campus while respecting the context and character of the adjacent neighborhood. The building includes a pneumatic tube system to increase efficiency in the conveyance of samples to and from the hospital proper.  Ease of pedestrian traffic between the facilities was an important aspect of design.  Natural light, via the clearstory window systems, illuminate workstations pleasantly throughout. The project goal was to create a facility that was both functional for the Client and respectful of its surrounding environment.
