Even though the Wuksachi Village Lodge and lodging at Sequoia National Park were the first new facilities to be built in a National Park in over 25 years, they were designed to look like they evolved over time. This was accomplished by mixing the styles of Mission, rustic, and Native American themes. Motifs taken from Navaho weavings were repeated in carpet insets, metal strapping, tile patterns and stenciling. Natural finishes, such as granite, cedar siding and rustic timbers, blend with the environment. A towering stone fireplace and hearth highlight the timeless design and add to the warm honey hued lighting throughout. Furniture procurement was a significant element of our design team’s process. Each piece has been selected to work as a cohesive member of the overall set. Appearance and functionality were of the utmost importance and contribute to the ease and comfort of this facility’s daily visitor use.
