James S. Fugman Elementary School is the product of a collaborative effort by Darden Architects, the School District, Construction Manager and community.  Each of these contributors lent their expertise in design, construction, maintenance, and pedagogy to create an ideal learning and teaching environment for students and staff. The Principal’s office has been designed to supervise the entire campus:  from the parking areas across the classrooms, ball courts, and snack bar building. Daylighting features include clerestory windows in classroom corridors and the Library/Media space, high windows in each classroom that bring in the natural light from the corridors, and light wells in Kindergarten spaces. Not only designed to serve as an educational facility, the school was designed as a gathering place for co-curricular activities and community functions.
