Consolidated Mosquito Abatement District

The Consolidated Mosquito Abatement District (CMAD) works throughout the year to provide relief from the nuisance of biting mosquitoes and to protect the public from the threat of mosquito-borne diseases. The new Headquarters facility for the Consolidated Mosquito Abatement District in Parlier, CA allows this vital agency to combine the resources of two separate office complexes into one new location.

The facility serves multiple uses including Administration, Research Lab, Board and Training Room and fleet vehicle Maintenance Shop. The space planning and site planning required flexibility to accommodate added seasonal staff from March-October, which more than doubles their regular staff.

The agricultural context of the site and heavy use of the interior spaces lead to showcasing the raw building materials as a distinctive design choice.  Budget was an important consideration in design and the non-traditional use of standard building materials creates the facility’s industrial style. Daylighting skylights throughout many spaces will reduce ongoing energy usage. Darden Architects worked closely with CMAD to ensure that all design decisions provide the maximum value.
