Turlock High School 5-Phase Modernization

Turlock Unified School District

Awards

The Turlock High School Modernization is a 5 phase project that touched nearly every building on the campus and has taken 13 years to complete. The architectural team has remained with the work from start to finish with a shared commitment to guide the District through to successful completion. The modernization of the West gymnasium is a standout piece of this work. This wood frame building was built in 1929 and plans showed that it was meant to be clad in brick. However, because of cost restraints during the great depression the brick was omitted. In the years since it’s construction the Gymnasium windows had been boarded up and a makeshift accessibility ramp added at the front entrance. It was important to the design team to give this historic building the respect it deserved. Brick now adorns the front façade in the style of the original design. The interior of this classic gym features rescued and refinished wood throughout and reinforced structural systems, new elevator, paint and lighting system. Across the quad, the Performing Arts building has received a full modernization. The theater seating has been replaced and all finishes throughout the building are new. The modernization also included work on all Classroom Buildings,  Agriculture Shop, West Gymnasium, Football Stadium, Pool, Relocation of Portable Buildings, Site work and Campus-wide Exterior Painting of buildings.
