Groundbreaking Ceremony for the New Matilda Torres High School in Madera USD
04/24/18

This morning a large group of Madera Unified School District representatives, City and State representatives, industry partners and community members gathered to conduct the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Matilda Torres High School. Superintendent Todd lile served as the master of ceremonies and spoke eloquently about what the school would mean for the community, teachers and most importantly, the students of Madera.

Superintendent, Todd Lile Speaks

“it will be one of the finest schools in all of California” he remarked gesturing toward the renderings on display. Superintendent Lile thanked all those involved in the design and construction in attendance including, Kitchell Construction Management, Harris Construction, Camarena Health, and Darden Architects. He spoke fondly of Matilda Torres and the special place she held in his life and the lives of countless members of the community. He concluded, “It’s important to remember the educators who made a difference in our lives. This naming [Matilda Torres High School] represents the spirit of all those individuals who have devoted themselves to the lives of kids.”

The Spouse of Matilda Torres, George Torres, spoke to the assembled crowd. His words were thankful to the District and community. He spoke of his wife and how the school would celebrate her memory. “We’ve been at this for 3 years, and with the help from the community, look what we got done?”

This was truly a special event and we are proud to be working on this project. We take joy in the positive effect our work has on the communities we serve. We are thankful to Madera Unified School District, the District Board, and facilities leadership. We are excited to see the campus take shape, and look forward to working closely with Harris construction and Kitchell throughout the construction process.
